“How many of us get to know a real legend?” Vickie Jensen asks me.
She’s standing next to Phil Nuytten, President of Nuytco Research Ltd. and a pioneer in the undersea technology industry. I’m feeling quite lucky myself, to be rolling video in this warehouse surrounded by impressive diving suits and submersibles. It’s clear that Phil and Vickie have known each other a long time. Vickie Jensen was editor of Westcoast Mariner magazine and has written many a book and Phil Nuytten opened up Vancouver Diver’s Supply in Kitsilano in the mid-1960s, the “very first diving shop in Vancouver.” His career beyond that shop would be illustrious and inventive. I also find out he wrote a book too…
…next up, a fascinating talk with writer and photographer Angus McIntyre, who drove a bus in Vancouver from 1969 to 2010, who recently gave a presentation about his experiences, the people he met and the changes he saw.
